A Nimapada court on Saturday granted the Crime Branch police to take the Astarang quadruple murder accused duo on a four-day remand for interrogation.

The husband-wife duo had been produced before the Nimapada Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court by the Crime Branch police amid tight security in the court premises.

Earlier, the couple had been taken to the crime scene at the house of deceased Dinabandhu Mallick, his wife and two daughters at Dinadiyan village under Astaranga block in Puri district to recreate the crime scene.

Thousands of curious villagers jostled to have a glimpse at the murder accused who were frisked away from the onlookers’ sight to avoid ruckus.

Murder weapons, two knives, used in the crime were seized from the house of Mallick. The blood-stained sharp weapons were hidden in the house. The weapons, which had been procured from Madhya Pradesh, would be sent for forensic examination. The stolen motorcycle of Mallick was recovered from Bhubaneswar, Crime Branch sources said.

After committing the crime, the accused duo had taken away the mobile phone of Mallick. The phone was recovered from Silchar, Assam, the sources added.

The two accused identified on Friday are Himadri Sekhar Das alias Rahim Khan and Ayesha Begum. They are from Chhattisgarh and were staying in Raipur. While Das is originally a native of West Midnapore in West Bengal, Ayesha is a native of Champa near Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh.
