Central leaders address party training meet at Puri

BJP national general secretary Jagat Prasad Nadda on Friday inaugurated a three-day training session for the party functionaries here. Addressing the trainee participants, he said the candidates who lost last polls should make a self-assessment of the cause of their defeat.

While last general elections witnessed a strong Modi wave almost in the entire country, it had little effect in some States, including Odisha, he said. Despite large-scale corruption in various sectors and endemic poverty in Odisha, the electorate voted the BJD to power.

This could be possible as BJD successfully managed to win confidence of the electorate while the State BJP failed to do it and capitalise on the BJD lapses fully, he reminded.

Nadda said time had come the party functionaries should go to the people and involve with them, while at the same time hammer out on the corruption of the ruling party to gain confidence of the electorate. This would be helpful for the State BJP to be close to the people and win their trust to come to power in the 2019 polls, he advised.

State president KV Singh Deo who presided over the session said the main thrust of the party would be to reach to the grass roots and address the basic issues. “This training programme should instill confidence among the ranks and files of the BJP to perform better,” said Sing Deo. BJP State secretary AN Singh also spoke.

Among others, veterans Bijay Mahapatra, Suresh Pujari, Biswabhusan Harichandan, Surama Padhi, Sanchita Mohanty, Dillip Roy, Jaynarayan Mishra, Basant Kumarr Panda and Nayan Kumar Mohanty were present.

Bhrugu Buxipatra conducted the proceedings. BJP State and district office bearers, candidates who fought polls for Parliament and Assembly last, office bearers of all BJP Morchas and district coordinators participated.

While Union Minister Jual Oram had arrived in the city to address the trainees, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was scheduled to address the trainees on a day, said sources.
