The unprecedented impact of Covid-19 on lives and livelihoods need to be properly assessed to pursue compensatory economic assistance to the people and industry, told economic impact assessment (EIA) analyst SB Mishra.
Speaking on a virtual submit on "Economic Stimulus Package and Challenges Posed By Covid-19 "organised by MASS, Mishra stressed upon preparation of a “Covid-19 imapact assessment report" involving economic researchers, Intellectuals, law makers, members of PRIs, trade union leaders and leaders of business and industry houses.
"The Government must immediately identify the needs and priorities of the groups in the informal economy that are the most vulnerable to the Covid-19 crisis and subsequent adequate policy responses," said Mishra.
He said Odisha is a key State with regard to the mineral production and metal based industries. The reduction in demand for Covid-19 has caused dramatic falls in the prices of a range of metals and minerals across March and April and subsequent collapse in the shares of many industries.
The total power supply saw a decrease of about 25 per cent during the lockdown. As the lockdown has severely reduced the industrial and commercial activities in the country, these sectors have seen a considerable decline in demand for electricity, Mishra told.
