The Winter Session of the State Assembly, which is scheduled to begin on November 16, is likely to be stormy as  the two Opposition parties, the Congress and the BJP, have decided to take on the BJD Government on various issues.

Farmers’ issues like delay in disbursal of crop insurance and provision of pension would be the main agenda of both the Opposition parties.

They would raise allegations of corruption, unemployment, rampant percentage commission, delay in appointment of Lokayukta, deteriorating law and order situation, violence against women and lawyers’ agitation, among others.

“The State Government has declared drought in areas not on the basis of accurate data. Besides, issues pertaining to law and order situation and rampant corruption will be raised in the House,” said Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra (Congress).

The BJP would raise the State Government’s alleged failure in tackling Cyclone Titli, lawyers’ agitation, ‘self-propagandist’ approach towards Make in Odisha Conclave and row over Darshan at Puri Shreemandir.

“PC practice works at the block level and other major issues will be raised in the House,” said BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit.

On the other hand, the BJD is likely to bring up the Polavaram issue, nonavailability of Special Category Status to State, cuts in Central assistances and Mahanadi water dispute in the House.

“The Government is ready to face any issues raised by the Opposition in the House,” said Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera. The Winter Session will continue till December 15. The Government is expected to pass important Bills during the session, which would have 23 working days.
