Assembly session on May 18 and 19

Published on:

The Odisha legislative Assembly would meet for a two-day special session from May 18 to discuss and pass the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Bill, a requisite for nationwide implementation of GST.

Sources in the Assembly Secretariat said the proposal to convene the special session has been approved by Governor Dr SC Jamir.

The State GST Bills being adopted by several States are basically the mirror image of the Central GST Bill.

As per plans, a workshop would be organised by a Central team for the MlAs for a brief understanding of the GST regime before the Assembly session.

Various issues like the State’s losses and gains from the GST regime and amendment to the Odisha Value Added Tax (VAT) would be discussed in the Assembly’s special session.
