The House Committee on paddy MSP on Wednesday met under chairmanship of Speaker Niranjan Pujari in the State Assembly premises here and decided to hand over a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon demanding an increase of paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal.

“A memorandum demanding an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy will soon be submitted to the Prime Minister,” Agriculture and Farmers’ Empower Minister Pradeep Maharathy told reporters after the meeting.

Pujari said the paddy MSP is usually fixed during June and July but before that a memorandum would be handed over to the Prime Minister.

It may be noted that a consensus resolution in this regard had been passed during the recently-held Budget Session of the State Assembly.

Earlier to that, the House had witnessed stalemates for a few days as both the opposition parties, the Congress and the BJP, insisted on passing the resolution.

However, BJP members did not turn up at the meeting held on Wednesday. In a reaction, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma said absence of BJP leaders is a betrayal to the farmers’ community.
