The Odisha legislative Assembly’s House Committee has sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the Polavaram issue.

House Committee member and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburmaon Monday told reporters that the committee has asked for an appointment with the PM betweenDecember 27 and January 18.

When asked whether Opposition Congress and BJP would be parts of the delegation, the Minister said, “After getting a confirmation regarding the date for the meeting (with the PM), a discussion will be held with BJP and Congress members of the House Committee.”

Dasburma said the Water Resources Department has been asked to prepare a fresh memorandum to be presented to the Prime Minister.

Notably, five Congress MlAs, who were members of the 25-member committee on the Andhra Pradesh Polavaram project, have resigned from the panel in protest against the ruling BJD’s attitude. The two BJP members of the panel too have announced that they would stay away from its future meetings.

On December 11, a House Committee meeting chaired by Speaker Niranjan Pujari decided to send an all-party delegation to meet the Prime Minister over the Polavaram issue. But the following day, BJD members disrupted the Assembly proceedings and met the Governor with a memorandum on the issue.
