Assembly impasse: Citizens' body slams Govt

Hitting out at the ruling BJD and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the impasse in the Assembly over the chit fund scam, the Odisha Nagarika Samaj (ONAS) on Wednesday demanded that the chit fund issue be discussed in the House.

“When an all-party meeting held under the chairmanship of the Speaker decided to discuss the chit fund scam issue in the House, why then the Speaker sought suggestion of the Advocate General whether the matter would be allowed to be raised in House or not,” asked ONAS general secretary Sachikant Pradhan at a Press conference here. He alleged that the AG has given his nod disallowing any discussion on chit fund scam in Assembly under pressure.

“While the all-party meeting decided to discuss the issue why the Speaker sought AG’s viewIJ Inviting opinion from the AG is quite unfortunate and uncalled for and his opinion is as such not tenable in the context of law,” added Pradhan.

Pradhan said, “The Government at present has gone polluted with its negative energy that could not spare its own legal advisor like AG of the State to procure such an opinion. Stalling of the Assembly in the guise of the AG’s opinion is quite unfortunate so far as the democratic tenets are concerned.”
