After 11 days of stalling, the State Assembly, as expected, was adjourned sine die on Monday, four days before the scheduled closure date of May 20.
The day too witnessed repeated adjournments as Opposition members kept demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for taking no action against ruling party leaders involved in chit fund scam. They too demanded ouster of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma for taking Pajero SUVs from the Artha Tatwa chit fund firm and ouster of chit fund probe chief Justice Madan Mohan Das for making a controversial statement vis-à-vis investors' interest.
Besides, continuance of dharna at the Speaker's podium by SC and ST MlAs was another reason for stalling of the House.
"Despite repeated orders, the MlAs are still sitting on a dharna in the House. The House was adjourned till 3 pm," said Speaker Niranjan Pujari as he sat in his Chair at 10.30 am.
A total of 27 sittings were held during the two-phase Assembly Session. While a total of 3,171 starred questions had been received, only four of them were answered. Four Adjournment Motions were discussed and six Bills were passed.
After Parliamentary Affairs Minister placed a motion to adjourn the House sine die, Chief Minister read out a statement in which he expressed unhappiness over continued stalling of the House.
"It is most unfortunate and a matter of serious concern that the second phase of the important Budget Session was continuously stalled by the Opposition affecting the interest of the people and State," the Chief Minister said.
He said the competitive politics of the Congress and the BJP to occupy the space of number one Opposiiotn is responsible for the state of affairs.
"The people are well aware of the commitment of my Government for betterment of the people, down-trodden, SC, ST and common men affected by the chit fund scam. We are determined to fulfil all our commitments for them," the Chief Minister said.
