A job fair organised here has turned out to be a farce letting down the job seekers as well as their parents. Although over Rs4 lakh was spent by the Government, yet the performance proved to be dismal. Only 435 could get job assurance from the companies out of 1,404 who registered their names.
The job aspirants received a big jolt soon after they found that there were only 12 companies available to offer them job. And, what was more embarrassing for them, out of 12 participating companies, eight belonged to the security agencies. There were hardly any options and choices left for the candidates who were with qualification of graduation, post- graduation, ITI and diploma etc. It was sheer harassment for them mainly who had attended the fair from far-off rural areas. Hardly was any publicity made for the fair for interest of the largest public. There was no participation of any prominent or reputed companies in the fair.
“It is a big disappointment for me. There are hardly any companies to take the candidates having qualification of graduation and above. The fair was not sincerely planned. There was lack of genuine interest,” said a participant. “The companies including the local ones who had promised to come and participate in the fair didn’t come. Only three local industries participated in it.
Out of a total of 1,404 registered aspirants, 435 aspirants could get employment, while 325 were shortlisted,” said District Employment Officer SK Murmu.
