The Ganjam district Collector on Friday said the family whose daughter, a Class VII student, committed suicide as her parents failed to buy a pencil and a notebook for her in Aska town of the district was not included in the economic weaker sections and BPl lists.
“The BDO report showed the girl’s family is very poor; her parents are daily labourers. Due some problems, their names were not included in the BPl list,” said Collector Premchandra Choudhury.“The deceased was not attending school regularly; her family is very poor and her parents worked as daily wagers. Probably, that was the reason why she was not attending school on a regular basis,” the Collector said.
On Thursday, the Collector had asked the District Project Coordinator and the local Tehsildar to conduct an administrative probe into the incident and submit a report.
