The Congress on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here in protest against the alleged police atrocities on tribals in Malkangiri district.
According to the report submitted by a fact finding team of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Malkangiri’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer had taken away one Trinath Samarth of Narayanguda village in Tondki GP under Korkonda block from his house on April 23, 2013 while acting on a theft complaint against him. But Trinath has not returned to the village since that day. The police also did not send him to the judicial custody either.
The team headed by former Minister Ganeswar Behera further informed that Tentulikhuntia Sarpanch Indira Madi, Chintapally village ward member Akul Srakar, Tamai Madkami of Korkonda and Benu Hantal of Almpaka-Kudumuluguma block have also been missing for long.
The party leaders submitted a memorandum to Governor Dr SC Jamir urging him to direct the Government to confirm whether the missing persons are under police or judiciary custody. The Congress leaders apprehended that they might have been killed on the charge of being Maoists. Among others, Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi, Former Union Minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu and former MlA Taraprasad Bahinipati were present.
