Two scientific officers from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), along with district administrative officials, visited the site of the two caves on Friday at Jabaghat area in Bisra block which had been discovered 12 days ago.
The team after examining into various aspects at the spot also drew samples of soil from the spot, to be sent to the laboratory. The next course of action, according to officials, would be decided only after report of the ASI team.
According to sources, on August 6, some locals of Jabaghat area had noticed a 30 feet long big hole in the backyard of one Maheswar Mundari’s house, following which they had informed the local administration. Acting on the information, a team of district administration, under the leadership of Panposh Sub Collector Biswajeet Mohapatra had visited the spot.
A day later another large hole was noticed by the locals nearby the earlier ones. After visiting the spot again, officials from the district administration had decided to take the help of ASI since the locals claimed that the holes are nothing but the gate way of large caves. Some of the senior citizen also had claimed that the caves were giving way to a palace, which now have been destroyed.
