An ASHA worker was attacked by some unidentified miscreants with sharp weapons in broad daylight in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The incident occurred at Tarini Basti in the Unit-6 area under the Capital police station in the city in the afternoon.

The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. According to sources, the ASHA worker came under attack when she tried to save her brother from the wrath of the miscreants.

Her brother, who is working in the oxygen plant of the Capital Hospital, had an altercation with some local youths over a theft incident recently. The incident was suspected to be a fall out of old enmity, police said.

The injured woman has been shifted to the Capital Hospital with injuries on her head and other parts of the body. One of the miscreants, identified as Kaalia, has been detained in connection with the attack.

A hunt is on to track and nab the other accused involved in the incident, police said.
