Aryabhatta holds Bicycle Day at B’pur

Volunteers of the Aryabhatta Foundation led by its founding president and environmentalist Sudhir K Rout organised a bicycle rally here on Thursday on the World Bicycle Day 2022. They with placards pasted on their bodies moved round the city.

The rally meandered through lanes and bylanes of the city starting from the medical college from east-end to Badabazar at the west-end and back through different routes.

The volunteers also conducted street-corner meetings and chanted slogans to give up the habit of the excessive use of fuel-driven vehicles even for small distances. Use of fuel-driven vehicles causes the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere resulting in global warming and climate change, Rout said. He further pointed out that overdependence on such vehicles leads to diseases like diabetes, blood pressure and lifestyle-related diseases.

The volunteers included some septuagenarians who are retired headmasters and have been riding bicycles. They have been keeping good health even at this advanced age and are able to walk or pedal their bicycles for kilometers.
