The Sambalpur unit of the Arya Samaj has taken up a novel programme for total prohibition of liquor in the city and across the district. It would educate people from all walks of life and particularly to those vulnerable to addiction about the negative impacts of liquor and other drugs.
To make it more visible, the members of the Arya Samaj formed a human chain inside Sambalpur town covering a major area where students and activists of different socio-cultural organisations took part.
“Our intention is to create awareness against liquor, nudity and drugs,” said Mahesh Saeta, an organiser. The participants and members of the Arya Samaj also sat in a dharna in Gole Bazar in the heart of the town to draw the attention of the public on the need to say no to liquor and other addictives.
“liquor, drugs and nudity are spoiling the entire society. Major crimes and atrocity against ladies are the outcome of these three evils. Hence, each individual must be aware of its adverse impacts,” said Gobind Agrawal of Arya Samaj. At the same time, the elite mass must do their best to educate people on this, Agrawal said further.
