Artists vent feelings through paintings at city show

Published on:
City people recently got a chance to see beautiful paintings at an exhibition in the premises of the Odisha Modern Art Gallery (OMAG) here.

Observing fifth Shilpi Divas, the OMAG organised the National Art Exhibition and Art Talk from December 8. Around 25 artists from across the State and outside joined the event to depict their thoughts and talents in art. Curator of the show and convenor of the gallery Tarakanta Parida’s painting was a sober one with wise combination of black, white and gray colours. Titled ‘A Day Beginning From’, Tarakanta drew a bullock cart with a rooster. This painting signifies his childhood time, when people in the countryside used to wake up in the morning with the crowing of rooster, instead of using alarm clock. The painting evoked a rustic life.

Another artist Rashmiranjan Jena, for whom painting became a passion since childhood, sketched a dog and a few squirrels playing with one another using acrylic on canvas. He got the idea to sketch in his tea time in the morning near a tea stall. He had seen the scene at that place and tried to represent it in a canvas. Now, he is working on animal activities.

Another painting that stood out was the “life.” Using water colour, painter Raghunath Sahoo showcased the mundane lifestyle of human beings. Using acrylic on canvas, painter Chandrasekhar Sethi drew a picture of primitive men. Painter Trinath Mohanty showcased a painted wood. By cutting wood and applying it with red and white colour, he drew the art piece marvelously.

In the inauguration day, an Art Talk was held, in which some renowned artists shared their experience in the field of art. They also talked about the method and medium of paintings. At the exhibition, the painters exhibited around 40 paintings and sculptures. The paintings were mostly done with acrylic on canvas. The exhibition will conclude on December 18.
