Artist Sudarsan Biswal, while holding a symbolic protest on Friday by turning up in the city street with a queer get-up against the arrest of 26 Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) activists on December 24 last year, was arrested by the Commissionerate Police.
Dressed like a farmer with a garland of vegetables around his neck, 36-year-old Biswal of Puri was walking from Jayadev Bhawan towards the Capital Hospital with his hands and legs tied with chains in a symbolic protest. The Commissionerate Police intercepted him and took him into custody. They let him off after detaining for four hours.
Notably, on December 24, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was forced to enter the State Secretariat through the back gate as NKS activists blocked his car at the main entrance. They earlier had created a din in the Assembly by raising slogans from visitors’ gallery against the apathy of the State Government towards the plight of the farmers. This time, they did not allow Patnaik’s motorcade to enter the Secretariat premises through the main gate.
