An Army jawan, Pradeep Kumar Das, and his wife were allegedly assaulted by their neighbour at Pimphal village under the Ranpur police station of the district, following which they lodged a complaint.
Das alleged that the incident took place 10 days ago, but no action has been taken by police against the accused.
The jawan also alleged that police officials misbehaved with his wife as well. “Despite assuring of action against the culprit, police have not done anything. Besides, they called my wife mentally retarded. After all this happened, I decided to lodge a complaint before the SP,” Das said.
Sources said during some repair work at the jawan’s house, one Kailash Tripathy had attacked a labourer following which Pradeep had interfered.
Later, Tripathy and some of his supporters allegedly assaulted the couple. A video of the attack is doing rounds on social media.
“Cases have been filed by either sides and within one week we would get to a logical conclusion. We have visited the spot and spoken to eyewitnesses,” Sarankul SDPO Narayan Barik said.
