'Appoint IAS officer as CMC Commissioner'

Published on:

Odisha Surakhya Sena (OSS) president Abhishek Joshi has written a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Chief Secretary GC Pati urging them to immediately appoint an IAS officer as the Commissioner of the Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC).

In the letter, Joshi mentioned that appointment of an IAS officer would ensure restoration of the CMC’s development process particularly in health and sanitation sectors to effectively curb menaces like dengue, malaria, jaundice and diarrhoea. He alleged that the civic body is plagued with so much corruption that it has failed to check such diseases.

Mosquito oil, which was supposed to be distributed to people free of cost was siphoned off and even if it is distributed, it is of very low quality, Joshi added. “Poor drainage and waste management system have opened the floodgates for such epidemics. To stem the rot, an IAS officer is

required to be appointed as the CMC Commissioner, who is expected to use his or her administrative acumen to extract Cuttack from the whirlpool of both the diseases and corruption,” he added.
