The Manav Adhikar Surakshya Manch here has demanded appointment of an IAS officer in the post of Vice Chancellor of the Berhmapur University after the term of the current VC Dipak Kumar Behera expires in July last.
Manch advisor Dr AR Burma said that this would help revive a healthy administrative and academic ambience of the university which has been in the limelight for last few years for all the wrong reasons like rampant corruption, financial bungling and student unrest.
The Manch lamented that the incumbent VC Behera during his term of the last three years did little to expose the people behind several corrupt practices in the university. There were huge irregularities between 2010 and 2013 like illegal appointments, promotion to the post of professor in violation of the UGC guidelines, DEC book purchage scam worth Rs 1 crore, question paper leaks, tender fixing and award of PhD /Dlit degrees to actor and MP Sidhanta Mohapatra etc.
Behera took over as VC of the university in 2013 and ever since it was expected that he would take strong action to bring the people involved in the corruption to book and bring back a healthy study ambience but till the end of his term he was found doing nothing, lamented the forum.
