lawyers of Brahmapur on Saturday threatened to take to the streets if their four demands, including appointment of an Assistant labour Commissioner, are not met within seven days.

The lawyers have intimated this to the labour and ESI Department Principal Secretary G Srinivas, State labour Commissioner Roopa Mishra, Ganjam district Collector and District labour Officer through letters.

The other three demands are upgrading of Assistant labour Commissioner office to the office of the Deputy labour Commissioner, amendment of Industrial Dispute Rules on the basis of amendment of ID Act, 1947 and 2010 and filling up of vacant posts in ministerial cadre at Brahampur, Chhatrapur and Jepore.

“The Assistant Commission Post has been lying vacant for the last three-four months and, hence, labour related cares are piling up. Petitioners have expressed unhappiness. Our repeated requests have fallen in deaf years only. All our demands should be filled up within seven days otherwise we would be forced to resort to an agitation,” said lawyers.

Among others, Kailash Chandra Mishra, Siva Prasad Mishra, Rama Prasad Panda, Krushna Chandra Panda, Kamal Prasad Dakua, Sunil Panda and Suvendu Panda stated about the demand.
