Apollo Hosp staffs' stir hits services

Published on:

Medical services were severely hit much to the chagrin of patients and their attendants after staffs of the Apollo Hospitals here on Saturday staged a protest demanding hike in their salaries and other benefits.

More than 1,700 employees squatted in front of the hospital, shouted slogans against the hospital management and demanded hike in salaries and bonus. The employees alleged that the hospital authorities had arbitrarily reduced their bonus and have not increased the salaries for long despite repeated demands.

The agitation triggered a plethora of problems for the patients and their attendants. “This year, the authorities have paid bonus which is much less than what was given in the last two years. The employees are made to work for much less salary with yearly increment of only eight per cent which is creating problems for us,” alleged the employees. Though the employees, union had discussed such discrepancies in bonus and salaries with the hospital authorities last year, no concrete measures were taken to resolve the issues, they alleged.
