The Supreme Court would hear the plea of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for rejection of the bail granted to Artha Tatwa (AT) Group chit fund scam accused and Banki BJD MlA Pravat Tripathy on March 4.
The CBI, probing the multi thousand crore chit fund scam in the State, had moved the apex court last year by submitting a special leave petition (SPl) challenging the Orissa High Court order granting bail to the suspended BJD Banki MlA.
Tripathy, who was in jail since October 2014 over his involvement in the AT chit fund scam, was granted bail by the Orissa HC on March 3 last year. Tripathy was arrested by the CBI on charges of hatching a criminal conspiracy with the chit fund group.
The Central investigating agency in its chargesheet had alleged that the MlA had taken `42 lakh from AT group chief Pradeep Sethy. Soon after his arrest, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had suspended Tripathy from the party.
