Aparajita’s office sealed for Covid norms flouting

Trouble further mounted for Bhubaneswar MP and BJP national spokesperson Aparajita Sarangi on Saturday, a day after a video that showed her celebrating her birthday violating Covid-19 guidelines went viral.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed Sarangi’s office at Palaspalli under the Airfield police station for next 15 days for the Covid-19 norms violation. The office would be sanitised before its next use, said a BMC order.

To add to Sarangi’s problem, meanwhile, a group of corona warriors, including health and sanitation workers and ASHA Workers lodged a complaint against her with the Bhubaneswar DCP on Saturday demanding stern action against her for flouting Covid guidelines.

Terming Sarangi’s act as irresponsible and unfortunate, the activists said, “While we are working day and night risking our own lives in the battle against the deadly virus, being a responsible citizen, Sarangi has repeatedly violated the Covid-19 guidelines set by the Government. Many of our warriors have laid down their lives fighting against the virus; but on the other hand, the MP has put several people’s lives at risk challenging the norms.”

Though Sarangi has been fined for the same offence earlier, she continues repeating the “irresponsible” acts, the corona warriors said demanding strong action against the former IAS officer.

Notably, on Friday, Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra wrote a letter to Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai against Sarangi’s act. “Such irresponsible behaviour on the part of a people’s representative will demotivate the Covid warriors and is an insult to all those who have lost their lives,” Mishra said in the letter.
