Kendrapada BJD MP and film actor Anubhav Mohanty, his younger brother Anuprash and his film star-wife Varsha Priyadarshini were booked by the Cuttack city police on Friday for voluntarily hurting, assaulting and harassing a woman journalist.
“A case under Sections 294, 354-A, 323 and 34 of IPC has been registered against all the three named accused in an FIR,” said Purighat police station IIC Rashmi Ranjan Sahu. The case has been registered on the written complaint of journalist Sashmita Acharya.
Sashmita in her complaint has said Anubhav’s younger brother had been passing lewd comments to her for past few days. When she had visited the MP’s house here at Choudhury Bazar on Wednesday evening to complain about it, Anubhav and his wife assaulted her.
Police said they were aware about the occurrence of the incident on Wednesday night itself. “The police had to rush to the MP’s house after hearing about it and accompanied the woman journalist to return to her house safely,” IIC Sahu said.
Sahu further informed that Sashmita’s statements have been recorded under Section 161 of CrPC; and the police would soon question the accused.
“The entire State knows what kind of a person I am and how I behave with people. The matter is now with the police and let the investigation begin,” said Anubhav.
Anubhav quashed the allegations dubbing them as “baseless”.
