Even as trouble is mounting for Kendrapada MP and film actor Anubhav Mohanty for his alleged assault on and harassment to a woman journalist, his younger brother Anuprash Mohanty has filed a counter complaint against the scribe, which the Purighat police station here on Saturday registered as an FIR.
A day after the police booked the MP under several sections of IPC, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Saturday held a demonstration in the city demanding immediate arrest of the MP. Burning effigies of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Anubhav Mohanty, the protesters threatened State-wide agitation if the latter is not arrested within 24 hours.
Following a written complaint by the woman journalist, police have registered a criminal case against the MP, his brother Anuprash and the MP’s actor-wife Varsha Priyadarshini.
The scribe has alleged that the MP and his wife had physically attacked her using filthy language on Wednesday evening when she had visited their house to complain against Anuprash for stalking her.
While the police had questioned the journalist and her husband on Friday and recorded their statements under Section 161 of CrPC, the MP and his kin named in the FIR are yet to be questioned.
“Since the MP has already left for New Delhi, we have examined at least three witnesses in the counter case filed by the MP’s brother,” informed Purighat police station IIC Rashmi Ranjan Sahu.
