Anti-poor policies: CPM stir in S'garh from today

Published on:

Protesting misrule of both the State and the Central Governments, the CPI(M) Sundargarh district committee has threatened to hold an agitation in different block offices and district headquarters from September 8-16. It demands fulfillment of a 17-point charter of demands.

Briefing mediapersons on Saturday, CPI(M) State Committee member Bishnu Mohanty said the CAG report has stated that rapid corruptions have taken place in 38 departments of the State Government. The ruling party leaders, their family members, bureaucrats and influential persons have taken a number of plots in different cities, including Bhubaneswar in deceitful manner, he said.

Even by mortgaging the IDCO leased out land many persons have availed Rs 52,000 crore loan from different banks. It is in stark contrast to the fact that many victims of Phailin were yet to get any government aid or sympathy, said Mohanty.

He further said that the Sundargarh district had been deprived of minimum health, education and communication facilities.

“In its hundred days rule, the BJP-led Central Government has done no good for the common people. On the contrary, it enhanced 14.2 per cent passenger fare and 6.5 per cent in freight charges of the railway.

While the Centre could not enhance allotment to MGNREGS, it never failed to allow tax exemption to the rich people to the tune of Rs 22,000 crore. As if that is not enough, the Government is planning to hand over the banking sectors, insurance and public sectors to private parties through massive disinvestment,” said Mohanty. He warned that the security of the country would be in jeopardy if 49 per cent foreign investment in security sector was allowed.

He lambasted the Government for its bid to make amendment in the R&R Act to protect the interest of the industrialists.

Among others, Bonai MlA laxman Munda, CPI (M) district committee secretary Banamali Dhupal, Rourkela committee secretary Srimant Behera, youth leader Rajkishore Pradhan, Biman Maity and Pratap Nayak were present.
