The Commissionerate police during their investigation into the seizure of a fake currency racket at Salia Sahi slum here on Sunday, detained a youth in connection with the case.

The Nayapalli police detained a resident of Betanata village under the Badasahi police station in Mayurbhanj district, Ratnakar Singh, sources said.

The police have formed a team led by an ACP rank official to probe the sensitive case. The cops are not ready to reveal all the facts as it might affect the investigation process. But sources said the police are trying to ascertain the masterminds behind the racket, their modus operandi and the links.

From the preliminary probe they are certain that given the arrestees’ financial condition and their source of livelihood they cannot operate this kind of racket. Twin city Police Commissioner YB Khurnia has already said that if required team would visit Kolkota and Bangladesh to probe the links.

Notably, on March 16, the Mayubhanj police with the help of the Commissionerate police had raided a house in Salia Sahi slum here and seized a fake currency printing unit and printing materials. The arrest of a youth Sagen Tudu in Baripadi, recently with 32 Rs 500 notes virtually opened a Pandora’s Box and led the police to the Salia Sahi slum.
