Another farmer in the district died on Sunday after battling for life for over a week in hospital. The deceased was identified as Narendra Hikaka of Malisiripur under Bissam Cuttack block.
Hikaka had consumed poison on November 26 due to alleged crop loss and was undergoing treatment at the local Christian Hospital.
Family members alleged that Hikaka was under mental distress after the cotton and paddy crops that he had grown in nearly four acres of land and vegetables in two acres were destroyed by pest attacks.
Moreover, Hikaka had taken bank loan and also borrowed money from private moneylenders for farming activities, family members said.
Police reached the spot and started investigation after seizing the dead body.
