Another farmer has committed suicide allegedly over crop loss due to pest attack at Simulia village under Sadar block in Balangir district. Radhakant Suna, who had consumed poison on November 12, died in a hospital on Wednesday.
Family members of the deceased alleged that Radhakant had cultivated paddy in over four acres of land. While crops on two and a half acres of land were destroyed by pests, the rest were damaged due to drought. Unable to bear the loss and loan burden, he took poison, said the family members.
Radhakant had been rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to the Burla medical college hospital. The district administration has begun a probe into the incident.
