Another debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in the State on Saturday at a time when the Central inter-Ministerial team was inspecting drought-hit districts to assess the drought situation.
Unable to bear the crop loss and loan burden, Dayanidhi Rohidas of Singhikata in Dhankauda block in Sambalpur district, had consumed pesticide on Friday night. He had been rushed to the Burla hospital, where he died on Saturday. Sources said he had taken loan from private moneylenders for paddy cultivation. The crop was damaged due to scanty rain. The crop loss and debt burden forced him to take the extreme step, said his villagers.
