Another cyclonic storm likely in State

The low pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea has intensified into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and is centred about 1,050 km southeast of Gopalpur, stated the SOA University’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) here on Saturday.

Due to favourable conditions such as sea surface temperature (SST) of 28-30 degrees Celsius, wind shear of 5-15 knots and upper level anti-cyclonic flow, the depression is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm, said CEC Director Dr SC Sahu.

Initially, the system may move in a west-northwesterly direction for a day or two and subsequently move in a west-southwesterly direction, he said. Sahu said light rainfall is likely to occur at many places in coastal and southern Odisha between November 12 and15 under the influence of depression. Moderate rainfall could also be experienced in several places in the State during the period.

There was also the probability of decrease of night temperature in interior districts of Odisha due to north-westerly/northerly wind flow, he said.
