A day after the prime accused in a case pertaining to a Class X student in Kandhamal district delivering a baby boy in the school’s hostel was arrested, the Koraput police on Sunday nabbed headmaster and hostel superintendent of Umri Sevasharm on the same charge on Sunday. Notably, the girl, a Class VI student of Umri Sevasharm, delivered a baby boy on February 3. When the matter came to light on Saturday the Child Development Committee inquired the matter and found that the incident was true.
“We suspended the school headmaster KCH Brahma and hostel superintendent Sabita Murmu,” said Koraput Collector Yamini Sarangi. Meanwhile, police also arrested the duo and started investigation into the matter. On Saturday the police had arrested the prime accused in a similar case in which a Class X student of lingagad Girls’ High School under G Udaygiri block in Kandhamal district delivered a baby boy in the school’s hostel.
It may be recalled here that district administration had suspended lingagad Girls’ High School headmistress Ashalata Pati and dismissed two assistant teachers (contractual) in-charge of the girl’s hostel and an auxiliary nurse mid-wife (ANM) after the incident of the girl giving birth to a baby boy in the school on December 23 came to the fore.
