Another 2 paisa cut in bus fares announced

Eight days after bus fares in the State was reduced by 1 paisa per km across all categories of passenger buses, the State Government on Thursday announced a further cut of 2 paisa per km across all categories. The new fares will be implemented with immediate effect, Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi told.

“The State Government has reduced bus fare again. After the 2 paisa cut, fares for ordinary buses have now come down from 59 to 57 paisa per km, express bus fares from 62 to 60 paisa per km, deluxe bus fares from 82 to 80 paisa and fares of AC deluxe buses from Rs 1.01 to 99 paisa per km. The new fare structure will come into force from February 12,” Majhi said.

While making the announcement about the 1 paisa across the board cut on February 4, the Transport Minister had made it clear that the announcement had not taken into account the Rs 2.25 reduction announced by the oil companies on February 3. It was made on the basis of the Rs 2.25 paisa cut in January, he had said, adding there would be another cut in fares soon after the technical committee went into the latest fall in oil prices.
