Annual seminar and farewell held at BJB College

The annual seminar-cum-farewell ceremony was held in the Humanities Conclave of the BJB Autonomous College here last week. The farewell fray was a mixture of the outgoing and the in-house students, a curious amalgamation of the brilliant and the boisterous, the sedate and the sarcastic, the aggressive and the subtle, the sensitive and the exuberant once.

It turned out to be a hilarious occasion with the jocund company of the senior and the junior guys marked with a high intensity of exotic emotions. There were almost a riot of colours and beauty noticeable in the extravaganza displayed by the lyrical dance and sonorous music presented by the budding artists among the students.

Delivering his welcome address, Principal Prof Nawaz Hassan described the Department of English of the college as a precursor of furthering the academic agenda and aspirations. Vice-Principal Prof Rita Pati called upon the outgoing youths to be equipped intrinsically to face life boldly.

Earlier in his address, Prof and HOD of English Dr Sailendra Narayan Tripathy eulogised the students and the faculties of the department for conducting three international seminars and eighteen State and national-level seminars that has created a history of the department to be recorded in the annals of the college.

Chief speaker journalist Sandeep Mishra exhorted students to be disciplined. Chief guest Prof of the PG Department of English of Utkal University Dr Asim Parhi advised students to pursue their dreams like sinking stars beyond the utmost horizon of human thoughts till it gets translated into realities in their lives. The department’s mouthpiece The Rambler was released by the guests. The event culminated with a prize distribution ceremony and felicitations to the outgoing Final Year Honours students. Prominent among others present were Prof Gopa Ranjan Misra, former Principal of JKBK College, Cuttack, and Prof Ajit Mukherjee, a noted scholar of English language and literature.
