Angul young grad earns Rs 50,000 per month

While the educated GenX in Odisha are eyeing petty jobs in the Government sector and getting frustrated after years of struggle as they are failing in their pursuit, this young graduate took ‘baby steps” and is now earning at least Rs 50,000 per month.

Thanks to his self-employment initiative on Animal Resources Development (ARD) Sector with proper guidance from an official from the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (DoAHVS), he is on an earning spree.

DoFARD Secretary Bishnupada Sethi recently visited the farm developed by the young entrepreneur Tapan Kumar Samal at Budhapanka in Angul and was left impressed by the drive of the guy’s overdrive for regular income in the agriculture sector.

While DoFARD in the State has been encouraging a large number of self employment initiatives, however, with the support of a Veterinary Officer, Tapan got the much needed guidance and boost, for which he has turned out to be a successful entrepreneur.

Giving out details, Tapan said that though he tried several options for self employment, the option for the dairy farming proved beneficial and last year he has earned Rs 6 lakh.

“An annual earning of Rs 6 lakh for a young graduate sitting at his home is not a small thing,” said Sethi.

The strategy adopted from the beginning was to “see it big while keeping it simple” (SIB-KIS), said the beaming entrepreneur, who was supported by his relative in the DoAHVS.

DoAHVS officials at Angul and BAIF extended their helping hand for the dairy farm and being thoroughly motivated, Tapan went ahead for a 1.5 acre land with provision of water.

And “one baby step at a time” helped him and he was made to understand that provision of adequate fodder and qualitative feed is a must before bringing the animals to farm and he was made to understand as to how the animal reacts to inadequate fodder and economic loss that occurs in a dairy farm.

Accordingly the farm was started in January 2015 and the overhead cost was kept at minimum level. Fodder plots were made ready and he purchased six cows. One thing he kept in mind is not to adulterate milk for profit.

That has yielded results and OMFED is buying the products from the farm, said sources. As the enterprise has turned out to be a profitable one, the profit is reinvested for developing better facilities in the farm, sources said.

In the meantime time, thanks to the overdrive of OMFED MD Bishnupada Sethi, the Angul Dairy has been successful in processing 10,200 litres of milk and packed it for market.

looking at the growing demand of the market, the State Government has sanctioned a 30,000 liter per day capacity Dairy Plant at Angul Town with a cost of Rs 8 crore.
