The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved three National Highway four-laning proposals across the country, including Angul-Sambalpur section of the NH 55, on Wednesday.
Out of Rs5,964.86 crore approved, Rs2,491 crore is meant for the 151-km Angul-Sambalpur stretch of the NH 55.
The other two projects have been sanctioned for Maharashra (Aurangabad-Telwadi Section of NH-211) and Punjab (Phagwara-Rupnagar Section of NH-344A).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted about these approved proposals.
“The cost of Angul-Sambalpur section of NH-55 is estimated to be Rs2,491.53 crore and total length of the road to be developed is approximately 151 km,” tweeted Modi.
The project will help in expediting the improvement of infrastructure in Odisha and in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic… particularly heavy traffic, plying between Angul and Sambalpur section, he said.
Besides, the CCEA also sanctioned an additional amount of Rs 1,268 crore for the Bhubaneswar IIT.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradah thanked the Prime Minister for the CCEA approvals for Odisha. The IIT would be full-fledged by 2018, said Pradhan.
