Angul murder accused undergoes polygraph test

After taking him on a fresh two-day remand, the Jarpada police in Angul district on Wednesday conducted a polygraph test of Jhasaketan Rout, prime accused in the alleged brutal murder of four persons of Kushakila and Kukurpeta villages, at the State Forensic laboratory here.

After a six-hour-long test, Jhasaketan told reporters that he was not involved in the murder of four persons. Earlier, Rout, who was arrested on February 10, had admitted that he had killed Jogeswar (35) and his brother Hiranakhya (34) on February 4 night and buried them in the backyard of Saraswati Sishu Mandir at Kushakila village. The accused, during interrogation, had said that past enmity over monetary issues was the motive behind the murder of the two brothers.

Two days after his arrest, the prime accused during interrogation told the police that he had murdered two more persons, Abala Gadnayak and her nephew Kumuda Sahu of Kukurpeta village in 2015 and buried them a few meters away from the place where he had buried the bodies of Jogeswar and Hiranakhya.

The cops conducted the test to ascertain the veracity of his statement.
