The Angul police on Friday night nabbed liquor baron Bikram Sahoo from his Karadagadia country liquor manufacturing unit on the charge of carrying out illegal trade despite the lockdown regulations.
Police also arrested 42 other persons involved in the illegal trading. The cops seized around 10,000 litre of liquor, Sahoo’s costly personal SUV, 18 motorcycles and 21 mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
Violating the lockdown orders, distillation and trading of liquor were being carried out with the tacit support of excise officials at midnight every day. The unit is only three km from the local Excise Department office.
The small traders had come to procure liquor from the factory at midnight. Getting information from reliable sources, police raided the unit on the directions of Angul Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena.
