A farmer of Para village under Chhendipada block in Angul district died on Tuesday at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack while undergoing treatment for consumption of pesticide. The deceased, Dandadhara Dehuri, was under pressure for crop loss and loan burden, said his family members. Dehuri had been admitted at the SCB in a critical condition on November 19.
Meanwhile, tension erupted at the village after Dehury’s body reached. Villagers kept the body and staged protest in front of the Revenue Inspector’s office demanding compensation for the deceased’s family. Dehuri’s son Duryadhona said all crops in their five acres of land had been damaged due to scanty rainfall. His father had borrowed Rs 40,000 from different sources for undertaking cultivation, Duryodhan said.
