Hundreds of anganwadi workers staged a demonstration at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Tuesday demanding fulfilment of their nine-point charter of demands.
The agitators took out a rally from Master Canteen Square and marched towards the State Assembly when they were stopped by police. Soon, a scuffle broke out after the agitators tried to break the police barricades and march towards the Assembly.
Following this, around ten platoons of police forces were deployed at the location in order to prevent any untoward situation.
The agitators said that the protest would be intensified in the coming days if the Government ignores their demands.
“The State Government should sanction a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 per month to the Anganwadi workers and should raise the age of retirement to 65,” said a protestor.
