The Keonjhar district administration on Thursday dismissed both the Anganwadi worker Subhashree Giri and cook Sukanti of the Khendra Anganwadi Centre under the Jhumpura police limits from their jobs on the charge of throwing piping hot water on a two-and-a-half-year-old child, leaving him critically injured.
The district administration also suspended the Supervisor of the Anganwadi Centre. The cook and the Anganwadi worker had been arrested by the police earlier.
It may be recalled that the child Parshuram Munda was punished by the Anganwadi worker and the cook for “defiling” the boiled eggs kept for the children in the Anganwadi Centre. The cook and the Anganwadi worker had allegedly thrown the hot liquid residue (peja) of cooked rice on the child on May 11.
The child’s father Rilu Munda had alleged in his complaint to the police that his child suffered the inhuman attack simply because he committed the crime of touching the boiled eggs kept in a container at the Anganwadi Centre. This enraged the Anganwadi worker and the cook allegedly because the child who belongs to the Munda caste had desecrated the eggs by touching them.
Parshuram, who was initially rushed to the Jhumpura Primary Health Centre, was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital here, where he is now undergoing treatment for his burns
Keonjhar ADM Sangram Keshari Swain had then said that a probe was ordered and had promised stringent action against the accused persons.
