Normal life was affected at Anandpur in Keonjhar district on Thursday due to a bandh called by the Sachetan Nagarik Sangh and the Maa Dhanei Seva Sangh demanding railway connectivity to the region.
Though there was no effect of the bandh on vehicular movement, Government offices and banks remained closed. The Anandpur Press Club and the lawyers’ Association extended their support to the bandh.
“The Anandpur lawyers’ Association called for a cease-work today supporting the bandh. We hope that the Central Government will fulfil the demand of the denizens of Anandpur soon,” said Anandpur Press Club and lawyers’ Association president Sanjay Kumar Mishra.
“All say that Keonjahr is the richest district of the country (for its mineral wealth). But the district lacks basic facilities like connectivity. There is no rail connectivity in the region,” rued Mishra. He warned the Union Government of massive protest if the latter fails to take up the issue seriously.
