The AMOFOI has been conducting priest-less caste-less, dowry-less love marriages for the last 43 years. By now, it has organised 10,419 marriages in this unconventional fashion.
The organisation got an impetus following a judgment of the Supreme Court that was delivered on October 11, 2022 whereby the court set aside a judgment of the Orissa High Court that had imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on AMOFOI for conducting the marriage of a minor. Indeed, the young girl Mandakini Jena who had her love marriage with her lover Bunu Behera of SC Kaibart caste of Dhenkanal town in AMOFOI on March 26, 2013 was of 20 years old. The High Court relied on her High School Certificate wherein her date of birth was mischievously lowered by one year and six months.
The love marriage that is being done in AMOFOI is really the simplest in the World. It is totally free from ostentation. There is no provision for anything that causes noise or air pollution. There too is no provision for any Barayatri or Kanyayatri. Barat is fully prohibited.
Age documents such as HSC certificates, Aadhar cards are collected from the lovers to determine whether they are “age-wise” qualified to get married. The lovers put on AMOFOI green caps and then their joint passport size photo is taken and the same is attached to the AMOFOI Love Marriage Certificate.
Green cap is used for 3 vital reasons. The couple will be living in an atmosphere of peace. They should be of loving nature. They will not beat their would-be child. Besides, they will go in for a one-child family. Total 10 marriage snaps are taken and each couple has to pay Rs 5,000 to AMOFOI for the conduct of the marriage.
