Ambulance drops infant, mother midway

An ambulance driver allegedly dropped a woman along with her newborn baby midway and left the spot in Nuapada district.

The woman and her family did not lodge any complaint with any authority, but the media informed the CDMO about the incident.

According to reports, Baladev Majhi of Khipripali under the Sinapali police limits had called for a 102 ambulance after his pregnant wife Taruni had labour pain on Tuesday.

The ambulance, which reached late, stayed 1 km away from the house. Family members managed to bring Taruni to the ambulance and she was rushed to the Sinapali Community Health Centre, from where she was shifted to the Khariar health centre.

Reports said that the ambulance driver had taken Rs 500 from Baladev towards vehicle expenses to carry the patient to the Khariar hospital, where she delivered a baby.

While the woman along with newborn baby was brought home by the same ambulance on Wednesday from the hospital, the driver dropped them near the Sinapali hospital and left the spot.

Baladev alleged that the driver had demanded oil expenses from him to bring the patient from Khariar.

He expressed his inability to pay money just then and promised to pay him after his wife and the baby reached home safely from the hospital. However, the driver allegedly left them midway.

Baladev brought her wife and baby to home in Khipripali village arranging a private vehicle from Sinapali.
