Ambulance comes late; accident victim dies in G'pati

A biker, who met with an accident at Kankadaguda village under Gajapati district’s R Udayagiri block on Sunday, died a few hours later as a 108 Ambulance didn’t turn up in time and the treatment was delayed.

According to information, two youths, Kera Dalei and Manguli Pradhan, were going on a bike when a car was coming from the opposite side. Seeing the speeding car on the curved road at Kankadaguda, bike driver Kera lost balance and hit the vehicle to a roadside tree. Kera lost his sense and lied for 30 minutes on the road while Manguli sustained injures.

Though locals called for a 108 Ambulance immediately, the receiver of phone call at the R Udayagiri PHC said the ambulance was not there at that time. But locals could know from a source that the 108 Ambulance was standing there. They soon informed the police about this. Then the ambulance came, but it was late by 30 minutes.

The doctor declared Kera brought-dead at the hospital.

“Had the Ambulance turn up in time, Kera’s live could have been saved,” said eyewitnesses.
