'Ama Police' service launched in B'pur

To conduct people-friendly policing practices in Brahmapur, a community policing service ‘Ama Police’ was launched on Friday in all the four police stations in the city.

There are three tiers in the Ama Police system and every police station would have an Ama Police Samiti. In the first tier, Havaldars would be appointed as Beat Officers, who would make house visits in the wards under a police station. The Beat Officers would work as a bridge between the concerned officers and the public. In the next tier, the Ama Police Samiti would function in every police station consisting of 15 to 20 members. It would oversee the work of Beat Officers and undertake activities such as night patrolling, befitting security systems, helping senior and disabled citizens, conducting awareness programnes and meeting the public, etc.

Then, an advisory committee consisting of the district Collector and the Superintendent of Police would look after the developments in the top tier. Additional SP of Brahmapur is in charge of this service. ADG Satyajit Mohanty, who is the Nodal Officer of community policing in the State, informed that the project has been working in 34 police stations across the State. “It will help both the police and the public connect with each other better,” he said.
