Covid-19 cases in the State continued to surge with the highest-ever 4,198 new positives reported on Monday, taking the total tally to 1,55,005.Of the new cases, 2,476 were reported from quarantine centres and 1,722 were local contact cases.
Khordha district again reported the daily maximum cases at 758 followed by Cuttack 367, Puri 310, Balangir 197), Sundargarh 196 and Jajpur 156, Kendrapada 143, Rayagada 136, Mayurbhanj 133, Baleswar and Sambalpur 130 each, Nuapada 116, Angul 108, Koraput 99, Nawarangpur 98, Jagatsinghpur 97, Bargarh and Jharsuguda 95, Kalahandi 93, Dhenkanal 80, Kandhamal 78, Subarnapur 74, Keonjhar 63, Bhadrak 53, Ganjam 44, Nayagarh 43, Deogarh 34, Gajapati 14, Malkangiri 22 and Boudh 19.Besides, 218 positives were registered from the State pool.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus claimed 11 more lives on the day, pushing the State’s death toll to 637. While Cuttack district registered four deaths, Khordha and Balangir reported two each and one each was recorded in Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Mayurbhanj districts.
The Balangir deaths were of a 40-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman whil a 35-year-old man and a 52-year-old man died in Khordha (Bhubaneswar city). The other deceased were a 60-year-old woman of Kandhamal, a 54-year-old man of Nayagarh and a 58-year-old man of Mayurbhanj. However, another 3,382 patients recovered on the day, taking the total recoveries to 1,22,024.
The highest 503 recovered in Khordha district followed by Cuttack 344, Bargarh 262, Jajpur 177, Mayurbhanj 175, Bhadrak 167, Baleswar 156, Dhenkanal 146, Puri 112, Jagatsinghpur 102, Rayagada 95, Ganjam and Sambalpur 94 each, Angul 91, Nayagarh and Subarnapur 90 each, Balangir 80, Nabarangpur and Sunarhgarh 70 each, Jharsuguda 68, Kendrapada and Korapurt 64 each, Keonjhar 51, Kandhamal 45, Nuapada 40, Kalahandi 39, Gajapati 29, Boudh 27, Malkangiri 25 and Deogarh 12.
