Alakananda murder: Five held in Cuttack

The Commissionerate Police on Saturday night arrested five more persons from here for their alleged involvement in the murder of lady teacher Alakananda Mishra.

They had helped in disposing the body at Kaliabuda crematory, police said. Earlier, five persons had been taken into custody, including main accused Paresh Mohapatra in the case. Investigating officials have also obtained report of phone call records and SMSs between the accused and the victim, sources said. Meanwhile, a scientific team of police seized the charred bones, blood stained salwar and hair of the victim from the funeral ground.

Notably, Mohapatra, principal of a city-based school, and Mishra, a fellow teacher in the school, were in a live-in relationship. Mohapatra often visited the woman’s house as the latter, a post- graduate in English, was helping him in writing a book. On July 29, following some altercation between the two, Mohapatra allegedly strangulated Mishra to death.
